Welcome to beautiful Modoc County in Northern California! 71% of this
county is National Forest with two million acres of pine, aspen and cedar
covered mountains, valleys, plateaus, meadowlands and wilderness.
It has four distinct seasons that mark winter, spring, summer and fall.
There are over 4,000 acres of swimming, boating, & water sports in
Modoc County alone (there are over 50 lakes)
In addition, this county is known for its superior hunting ~
large herds of Rocky Mountain Elk roam the area. There are private
and public hunting areas set apart for the huntsmen.
The world famous Warner Mountain Range is here, too. The High desert
climate (altitudes varing from 4,000 ft. at valley floor to 10,000 ft. at the peak
of the Warner Mountain Range) makes for warm dry summers and a perfect
retreat for that getaway vacation spot. Open all year, Modoc County
is a huge playground that encourages camping, fishing, cross-country
skiing, down-hill skiing, snow boarding, horses, day-hiking, backpacking,

seasonal calendars for educational programs on hunting, fishing, etc.
Alturas, is a friendly town which hosts endless choices for family fun
and recreation. Back roads and hillside trails are surrounded by Modoc
National Forests so hikers and backpackers and horsemen can explore
countless areas that include gorgeous views of glacial lakes & meadows.
ATVing and Mountain Biking are especially popular in the area!

In the wintertime, ice- fishing or fly-fishing in the Pit River, or fishing
in one of a dozen different lakes in Modoc County. Fishing in the
